Viewability (Scout)
Scout tracks ad viewability using VAST events from video players. Every publisher gets a grade based on how often their ads are actually seen and completed.
How It Works
When a video ad plays, the player fires VAST tracking events: start, firstQuartile, midpoint, thirdQuartile, complete. Scout collects these events and calculates viewability metrics per publisher.
Metrics
| Metric | Formula | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| Viewability rate | Midpoints / Starts | How often ads are watched past the halfway point |
| Completion rate | Completes / Starts | How often ads play to the end |
Publisher Grades
Scout assigns each publisher a letter grade based on viewability and completion rates.
| Grade | Viewability Rate | Completion Rate |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 90%+ | 80%+ |
| A | 80-89% | 70-79% |
| B | 65-79% | 55-69% |
| C | 50-64% | 40-54% |
| D | Below 50% | Below 40% |
Leaderboard
Go to Intelligence > Scout in the sidebar to see the publisher leaderboard.
The leaderboard ranks publishers by viewability rate and shows:
- Publisher name and grade
- Viewability rate and completion rate
- Total starts, midpoints, and completes
- Trend arrow (improving or declining)
Click a publisher to see their daily viewability breakdown.
Using Grades
- A+ and A publishers are premium inventory. Set higher floor CPMs and offer them in PMP deals.
- B publishers are solid performers. Standard pricing.
- C and D publishers may have placement issues (below the fold, autoplay without sound, small players). Consider raising their floor or investigating their setup.
