Traffic Shaping
Traffic shaping controls how much of a publisher’s traffic goes to DSP auctions. Low-fill publishers can be sampled to reduce costs without losing revenue.
Via Broker
- Go to Supply → click a publisher → Shaper tab
- Toggle Enabled/Disabled
- Set Sample Rate (0-100%) — what percentage of requests run auctions
- Set Max QPS — maximum queries per second to DSPs
- Click Save Shaper
Via Broker Chat
“Set Publisher A’s shaper to 50% sample rate”
“Disable traffic shaping for publisher X”
Default Behavior (Auto)
When no manual config is set, the shaper uses fill-rate-based sampling:
| Fill Rate | Sample Rate | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| > 10% | 100% | Send all traffic |
| 5-10% | 50% | Send half |
| 1-5% | 20% | Send 20% |
| < 1% | 5% | Send 5% (minimum for Pathfinder data) |
The counter (request count) is always recorded regardless of shaping, so dashboard metrics stay accurate.
When to Use Manual Config
- Publisher has low fill but you want all traffic to go through (set 100%)
- Publisher has excessive traffic consuming DSP capacity (set max QPS)
- Testing a new DSP integration (temporarily set 100%)
